Domsjö Fiber is a unique collaborative solution between Domsjö Fabriker AB and the municipal energy company Övik Energi AB— a raw material procurement company that supplies both with raw materials.
Through collaboration, we have become an attractive customer for the forestry industry. We are able to receive most types of assortments from the forest, and we streamline purchasing, transportation, administration, as well as the distribution of biofuel and pulpwood.
Övik Energi is the local full-service provider of sustainable energy and communications, playing a key role in promoting long-term sustainable development in Örnsköldsvik. The company offers electricity contracts, power distribution, district heating, district cooling, fiber networks, process steam, and energy services.
The energy group consists of Övik Energi AB that is 100% owned by the municipality of Örnsköldsvik, and Övik Energi Nät that is a fully owned daughter company to Övik Energi AB.
Övik Energi’s combined heat and power plant was commissioned in the summer of 2008 and produces approximately equal parts district heating, steam, and electricity. In its energy production, Övik Energi uses renewable by-products, primarily sourced from the region’s forest and pulp industries.
Domsjö Fabriker, part of the global Aditya Birla Group, is a biorefinery with a strong environmental profile. They refine softwood into bio-based products, originating from sustainable forestry. The company is located at the High Coast Innovation Park, a hub for the green transition of the future.
The main products are:
Cellulose: Primarily used for viscose textiles, but also in pharmaceuticals, food, and industrial products.
Lignin: Used as an environmentally friendly additive in concrete, animal feed, and fertilizers.
Bioethanol: A biofuel produced from by-products of the manufacturing process.
Our board of directors consists of representatives from our mother companies Domsjö Fabriker AB and Övik Energi AB. The chairmanship is altered on a yearly basis between the CEOs of the two companies.
